Frequently asked questions:

How does the Smicha program work?

The Machon Smicha program is a fully online, structured Smicha program that you can do from anywhere. You get access to your own account with all the video shiurim, translated and explained Shulchan Aruch, quizzes, tests, and a clear weekly schedule to follow. It’s self-paced but built with real structure, including cohort support and dedicated rebbeim.

What does Machon Smicha offer?

Every person in the Smicha program gets: an online account with all materials, video shiurim, and a clear English study guide with translations and explanations. You will also receive ongoing support from rabbonim, along with quizzes, reviews, mock tests, and formal exams. Upon successful completion, a Smicha certificate is awarded.

Who is it for?

Thanks to Machon Smicha’s innovative curriculum and English Study Guide, this course can bring almost anyone up to speed, while still offering a high level of learning that will benefit seasoned students too.

How long does the program take? How much time per week?

Approximately one year if you follow the recommended schedule. Learning time is about eight hours per week.

How much does it cost?

The Smicha program is $300 a month for 12 months, or there is a 20% discount for paying upfront, which is $2,880.

What is the special rate for Bochurim?

Thanks to a generous sponsorship, for next year we are able to offer the entire Smicha program to Bochurim and yeshiva students at a severely reduced rate – $1,600

How does the English Translated and Explained Shulchan Aruch work?

Our Translated and Explained Shulchan Aruch gives you the full Hebrew text side-by-side with a clear English translation and detailed explanations. It walks you through the background from the Gemara and Rishonim, and then helps you understand the Mechaber, Rama, Shach, and Taz step by step.

Do I go at my own pace, or is there a schedule to follow?

On one hand, the program is flexible, with books being mailed out to you, recorded shiurim, and quizzes and tests available to be taken anytime. On the other hand, the learning is structured in that we have cohorts, with a weekly learning schedule that provides guidance, accountability, and momentum

What support do I get from the rabbis and teachers?

Each cohort has a dedicated rabbi who guides the group, answers questions, and helps you stay on track. There’s also a cohort WhatsApp chat where you can ask shailos and discuss the material with other serious learners. On top of that, the rabbonim are available by WhatsApp, call, text, or email — so whenever you’re stuck or need clarity, there’s someone real you can reach out to.
